A moving portrait of seventy-year-old, traditional traveller Sheila Stewart and her final quest to ensure the survival of her culture.


Synopsis

Now in her seventies, ballad singer Sheila Stewart is the last in the line of the Stewarts of Blair, a long lineage of traditional travellers ballad singers and storytellers. Her final quest is to ensure that her ancient culture does not die with her. But it’s not an easy battle, being a Traveller, means Sheila is ignored on her own doorstep in the idyllic Perthsire area of Blairgowrie. The film is a moving portrait about an outsider and a lament for a culture now lost.

About the film makers

Last in the Line is the 2nd film for cinema from collaborative film makers Dylan Drummond & Blair Scott. Dylan & Blair produced and directed the film and work together as producers, directors and editors on all their films. They currently have their first piece of fiction for cinema in production and also produce TV adverts and are seeking commissions for television.

Bridging the Gap 3 - 2006

In year 3 of this short documentary film scheme, filmmakers were commissioned on the theme of Lies. Last in the Line pre-screened to industry only at Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2006 and is now available to Festivals world-wide. The Scottish Docemantary Institute organise public talks, screenings and seminars. They run production and training initiatives (Bridging the Gap, AfricaDoc, Constructing Reality) for new filmmakers. They house Docspace, a research hub which analyses and promotes digital documentary exhibition and studies new technology and cinema audiences. Docspace is the UK partner of CinemaNet Europe.
